APRIL REFLECTIONS

Seniors - Room 1 Let it be Spring !

Let the children watch the raindrops fall outside while they make rain sticks inside. Let the daffodils and trees bloom outside while the painted tulips and spring torn paper trees come to life on our bulletin boards inside.

Let the balmy winds blow outside while the children circle the blacktop joyfully with their paper bag fish kites.

Let the curiosity and fascination with worms and insects outside continue into the classroom while the painted lady butterflies, Luna moths and Cercropia moths transform and emerge in our aquariums.

Let the town of Chew and Swallow be produced in imaginations and on paper after the children listen to the story Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Spring brought us new adventures! We traveled to McHenry County Division of Transportation to view enormous trucks, plows, tractors and cherry pickers. We viewed the underside of a vehicle in the repair department . We learned how the road signs are made and even had a picture taken in the cab of a huge truck. It's an interactive and captivating trip for our children and as usual the employees do a great job making us feel welcome and share important safety information. As a follow up to our trip, the children painted free form vehicles at the easels and created road signs of their own.

A visit from the tooth fairy in full costume amazed the children. She informed them about dental hygiene and healthy foods. Her timing is perfect as many of them have questions and stories about the experience of the first loose tooth.

April takes us further along in our quest to finish the alphabet books. Letters Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz are entered and the books are completed.

Our last trip to the grocery store gave the children an opportunity to take a tour and discover the duties of the workers in the various departments of the Crystal Lake Jewel and the Algonquin Jewel.

Back at school we discussed household tools and exercised our fingers building craft stick houses and printing with kitchen tools. We used a blender to make some delicious fruit smoothies.

The children learned that children with disabilities can do many of the things they love to do. And, they had fun exercising their bodies as they participated in a Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy.

Our Spring weather has allowed us to enjoy many days of outdoor play on the blacktop and the playground. Hula hoops, balls, bikes, swings and slides are occupied daily.

May will bring activities for Mother's Day, All School Science & Art Days and School Picnics ....Let the fun continue !!
