REFLECTIONS

SENIORS ROOM 1

JANUARY REFLECTIONS Room 1 Seniors, M-W-F AM The New Year got back into full swing with alphabet review! Our first day back after Christmas Break was devoted to reviewing all the letters we had covered so far this school year. The children brought in an item to share and sort according to the letter they had been assigned. The children were excited and proud to share their show and tell! We also read The Mixed-Up Alphabet and used letter blocks to spell their names and other words of interest to them. Keep reviewing the letters/letter sounds of the alphabet at home; its great for pre-reading skill building! We enjoyed a really cozy Pajama Day! The children were all decked out in their warm, wintry, jammies and were ready for some fun! Our class did a taste test comparing lemonade with hot chocolate. First, we discussed how the powder mixes compared, then we added cold/hot water to each to make a tasty refreshment. We used our sense of taste, smell, and sight to discuss the two drinks similarities and differences. They each brought home a giant cup of cocoa with 10 marshmallows made out of paper! The children have really been enjoying the many snow related projects we have completed in class. They have been able to explore their inner artist abilities by painting beautiful snowmen and creating cute winter trees using their tiny arms and handprints. We also discussed the events that take place in making a snowman. After sharing ideas, the children were asked to create their own snowman and add decorations to make each one unique. We also had fun sequencing the events of building a snowman and gluing them in order. Wow! Did they do a nice job! Our class discussed seriating objects and how to put items in order from largest to smallest and smallest to largest. The children were asked to put snowflake pictures in size order from largest to smallest. They were so eager to share their opinions and felt confident that they knew the correct order! We enjoyed another fun Wacky Wednesday at Thunderbird on January 25th. What a fun day of Dr. Seuss and wacky events. We made a cool Loop Art project and acted just plain silly! It was so fun to see all of the wacky, colorful outfits our friends wore to school! We have been exploring measuring, pouring, and scooping potato flakes using containers of various sizes at the sensory table this month. Thank you for continuing to send in the pictures for our letter of the week! It is a great reinforcement of letter recognition and letter sounds. The letter board on the outside of Thunderbird school is a great reminder as to what letter we are working on in class. Snow! Snow! Snow! Winter has finally arrived. With the wonderful mild weather at the early part of January we were able to enjoy a lot of outside playtime. Now that the snow has arrived we are hoping for some fun times outside as well. Well be checking that thermometer each school day and hope for fun in the snow! Dont forget to pack all the winter gear&hats, warm coats, mittens/gloves, snow pants, and boots. It would also be helpful to have the children practice putting on all of their gear so that they can learn to become more independent in getting themselves ready! Thank you so much!
