JUNIORS ROOM 3
JANUARY REFLECTIONS
ROOM 3 JUNIORS The children have made a great transition from home to school after a long winter break. Helping them with that transition was being able to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home. Their stuffed animals were a big part of our day! We introduced them at circle time and also danced with them. At snack time we had Teddy Grahams. The children were very excited to tell us all about their stuffed animals. We also learned that polar bears and other animals camouflage themselves in snow and grass to protect them from their enemies. Our children camouflaged a polar bear in a snow storm using shaving cream, glue and glitter. Many of our projects, stories, and finger plays have centered on ice, snow, snowmen, and mittens. They enjoyed singing about 5 little snowmen riding on a sled to the tune of Five Little Monkeys. Ask your child who was called when each snowman fell off the sled. One of our projects was painting with frozen paint. The children skated the ice cube paint across the paper. Some of the children had fun painting up their arm! Many of our January activities incorporated pre-math concepts like counting, sorting, matching, and serration. What growth we have seen in these skills since last September. Fine motor skills, like cutting and lacing have progressed also. Thank you for all you do at home...it really shows!!! During story time we read the classic The Mitten by Jan Brett. Our fine motor skills were challenged as we laced 2 mittens together. The children also re-enacted the story. Have your child tell the story to you and your family using the animals hidden inside their laced mitten. The first part of January was unseasonably warm! We took advantage of the nice weather by playing outside. It was nice to not have to wear snowsuits or boots! Thank you to all the parents who have put snow gear in their child's bag. We are going to get to slide down our hill adjacent to our building soon! We are looking forward to our field trip to Country Donuts. Making donuts is a yummy project!!!
