T Th SENIORS
APRIL REFLECTIONS
T-TH AM Seniors Room 1 We began with preparation for our Easter celebration. The children created a white basket for their beautifully decorated eggs. The eggs were so bright and colorful for spring! We had our party and enjoyed many yummy treats. Thank you to parents for sending in those delicious treats for the children to enjoy. We sure do appreciate all that you do . We had a Hop-A-thon to help children with disabilities. We watched a video about children who have disabilities and discussed how we can raise money to help this very important cause. The children enjoyed our spontaneous jumping sessions in a n effort to support a good cause. Our field trip to the McHenry County Division of Transportation was awesome!! The children built a road using carpet squares. They had to go over a river and avoid a tree, a bunny, and a deer. They were rewarded for their work with some money. Then they were given toy cars to try out their new road. The new road led us to the next stop which was the sign shop. After a brief lesson on how signs are made we headed for the garage. Here the children had three stations to visit. The first was a construction zone where we learned how important is to not use your phone in the work zone and to pay attention to the road workers with signs. One of the workers held a slow/stop sign and we walked around cones when it said SLOW and stopped when it said STOP. At the next station, we got to climb up in a snowplow truck. The children had their pictures taken and were able to walk right up to and under the plow. We could see how hard it is for the drivers to see and how important it is for us to stay back away from the road while they are plowing. The final station was a mess! Garbage was all over the place and we used trash grabbers to pick it up. A highlight for the children! When we had it almost all picked up, a worker would come and dump it out again - we got a taste for how frustrating it is when people litter! In honor of Earth Day we made "Trash Monsters". We hope the children got a chance to put them to use over the weekend! Our week in Florida took us to the beach and to the Everglades. The weather was great indoors as we discussed what you find at the beach, made smoothies and listened to the Beach Boys! Our lesson on the Everglades included alligators. The children worked hard to cut out the many teeth needed to fill our alligator's mouth! We added the letters Uu, Vv, Ww, and Xx to our alphabet books this month. The children are very excited that we are almost to the letter Zz. They are anxious to bring them home and show them to you! Please keep practicing writing at home with your child! They will be doing a lot of it next year and it will help them to have strong writing skills! Earlier in the month, the children enjoyed using fish nets to collect frogs, bugs and fish from water in the sensory table. For the rest of the month, the children enjoyed building with giant tinker toys and then sifting, scooping and pouring green sand. Spring has arrived at Thunderbird this month! We have an ant farm in our room and we are watching tadpoles and chick eggs in Room 2!
